Carol Taylor

Please join us in welcoming Carol Taylor, a Darley Dale Town Councillor, as a new Trustee to the Whitworth Centre.

Carol writes ...

I have lived on Old Hackney Lane since 1997, out of Sheffield when all the kids left home! My background is in education, in primary, secondary, adult, further and HE, and as an advisor for DCC. I became the Director of the Literacy Campaign known as Read On Write Away! and in 2004 I became the CEO of a national quango/ charity, merging it with another national charity in 2007. I stopped doing paid work in 2016 (don’t like the ‘retirement’ word). I was awarded an OBE in 2014 for ‘Services to Adult Education nationally’.

I am currently the chair of the Wirksworth Arts Festival and involved locally in a range of issues and groups, and have been active recently in bringing people together to address the traffic issues on Old Hackney Lane. I am committed to local democracy, to representing the interests of the residents living area, including around Old Hackney Lane, which often appears to be rather forgotten. I’m really looking forward to knowing more about the Whitworth Centre and what makes it tick.
