An Ideal Husband by Oscar Wilde

“Morality is simply the attitude we adopt towards people we personally dislike.”
Political sleaze is never out of the public spotlight – as much today as in the Victorian era. This is the setting for Oscar Wilde’s An Ideal Husband written back in 1894. Up and coming politician, Sir Robert Chiltern, with an impeccable reputation for honest has a hidden secret. One of which will, if disclosed, bring him down. Sound familiar?.
The play is set in the opulent London society of the day. The Victorian’s social snobbery and the hypocrisy of the political elite is one to which Wilde gives his customary sharp witted dialogue.
